Welcome to episode 10 of the Indies’ Reading Block Podcast!
Educator of young minds by day, super nerdy savior of justice and cute things by night, Morgan Straughan Comnick has a love for turning the normal into something special without losing its essence. Morgan draws from real life experiences and her ongoing imagination to spark her writing. In her spare time, she enjoys doing goofy voices, traveling to new worlds by turning pages, humming child-like songs, and forcing people to smile with her “bubbliness.” It is Morgan’s mission in life to spread the amazement of otaku/Japanese culture to the world and to stop bullying; she knows everyone shines brightly.
Her poems, “Even I Can” and “The Graduate I’m Proud Of,” are both featured in her short story and poetry collection, A SWEET, LITTLE DREAM.
In her first poem, “The Graduate I’m Proud Of,” Morgan wrote it for her now husband Derrick to congratulate him for graduating.
In her second poem, “Even I Can,” Morgan wrote it during her senior year. The poem helped boost her confidence in her writing skills and won second place in her school’s annual poetry cafe.
You can find both poems in Morgan’s collection, A SWEET, LITTLE DREAM.

Our next episode will air on April 1 and will feature an excerpt from a novel in verse by Frank Mundo.
