What They Wanted

Shane told me he had written a book that he wanted to use for marketing purposes for his company, Applied Technology Group. He told me he did the hard part, actually writing the book, but didn't know anything about the self-publishing process.

The Project

Shane had a super tiny book that he wanted to publish. He didn’t know too much about the self-publishing process, but knew he needed help. He came to me because of my background and I held his hand throughout the entire process and explained what needed to be done and what the next steps should be.

I hadn’t worked on a lot of computer or tech books. But when it came time to creating the cover, I knew I wanted to incorporate something that looked computer-ish. Whether it be hiding binary somewhere or hiding some sort of line of coding. After playing around with some concepts, I thought using the closing paragraph would be a fun idea to really tie everything together, so I enclosed the subtitle in that.

The colors were partly inspired by Shane’s company. He told me he wanted me to keep the same colors so that we didn’t stray too far from his branding, which I completely agreed with. I noticed a lot of tech books liked to use more neon-ish colors and effects, so with some color adjustments, we landed on something that we both liked.
